A minor fire incident at Curtis PR
Carolina, Puerto Rico: The manufacturing facility Curtis Instruments, Puerto Rico, experienced a minor fire incident on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021.
The small fire was localized to a single piece of equipment. Only a small area in the plant was affected. The fire was fully and immediately extinguished by Curtis employees, using on-site fire extinguishers.
The only impact of the event, that temporarily affected the plant, was the resulting smoke. The unit’s evaporator failed, creating smoke when oil inside the machine ignited. The local fire department arrived very quickly and checked the building’s safety. Large smoke extraction systems were used to immediately clear the smoke.
Foremost, no employees were hurt in the fire. Two employees suffered only minor smoke inhalation and were effectively treated by paramedics on the scene and released.
Our maintenance and technical people have started the cleanup. Production will experience a brief delay that is not expected to impact customer delivery. The staff is working overtime to assure that all mitigation is completed swiftly.
Strict health and safety COVID-19 protocols will remain in place.
